第1話

Sam: Cause we're not exactly the Bradys.
Friend: And I'm not exactly the Huxtables.

"The Brady Bunch"は1969年から74年にかけて放送されたドラマ。再婚して大家族になったBrady家の物語。Huxatable家は、84年から92年にかけて放送された"The Cosby Show"に出てくる家族。こちらは上流中産階級のアフリカン・アメリカン・ファミリーの物語。

Dean: I love the Smurfs.

Jessが着ていたTシャツは、アニメThe Smurfsに登場するキャラクタが描かれている。

Dean: Okay. Um… dad hasn't been home in a few days.
Sam: So he's working over-time on a "Miller Time" shift; he'll stumble back in sooner or later.

Millerはビール会社。

Sam: Aw yeah, he's just deer hunting up at the cabin and he's probably got Jim, Jack, and Jose along with him. We're just gonna go bring him back.

Jim Beamは、バーボンウィスキー。Jack Daniel'sはウィスキー。Jose Cuervoは、テキーラ。

Dean: No sir, we were just leaving. Agent Mulder, Agent Scully.

ドラマ"The X-Files"の二人の主人公。

Dean: Okay, thank you "Unsolved Mysteries".

"Unsolved Mysteries"は1987年から放送された、実話に基づいたミステリーを紹介する番組。再現映像と当事者のインタヴューで構成されていた。

Policeman: So you want to give us your real name?
Dean: I told you, it's Nugent. Ted Nugent.

Ted Nugentアメリカのロック・ギタリスト。

Policeman: I'm not sure you realize just how much trouble you're in here.
Dean: We talking like misdemeanor kind of trouble? Or uh… "squeal like a pig" kind of trouble?

1972年の映画"Deliverance"(邦題「脱出」)より。Ned Beatty演じるBobbyがマウンテン・メンに犯された時に、言われたセリフ。恐怖の象徴として、非常に有名。

Sam: What were you thinking shooting Casper in the face, you freak?

アニメ"Casper the Friendly Ghost"より。エピソードに登場する"Woman In White"との対比で用いられた。

Woman in White: At the end of Breckenridge Road.

彼女の名前、Constance Welchの元になったRaquel Welchが1970年に出演した映画が"Myra Breckinridge"。

第2話

Dean: Tell me, ... Bambi or Yogi ever hunt you back?

Bambiは1942年のディズニー映画"Bambi"に出てくる鹿のキャラクタ、Yogi Bearはアニメ"The Huckleberry Hound Show"に出てくる熊のキャラクタ。

Ben: They went this way. Sam: It's better than bread crumbs.

グリム童話「ヘンゼルとグレーテル」ではパンくずを辿って行ったが、この話ではM&Mを辿って行った。1982年の映画"E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial"では、E.T.を探すために森に撒くチョコレートがM&Mになる予定だったが、実際はThe Hershey Companyのものに変更された経緯がある。

Ben: Like the Donner Party.

いわゆるゴールドラッシュに湧いた時代、西のカリフォルニアに向かって大陸を横断したドナー隊のこと。Sierra Nevadaで遭難した際、死んでいったメンバーの肉を食べて飢えをしのいだという話がある。チャップリンの映画"The Gold Rush"(邦題「黄金狂時代」)にもこの話が盛り込まれている。

第3話

Dean: I'm Agent Ford, this is Agent Hamill. We're with the U.S. Wildlife Service.

映画"Star Wars"シリーズにおいて、Han Soloを演じたのがHarrison Ford、Luke Skywalkerを演じたのがMark Hamillである。"Dean=Solo", "Sam=Skywalker"という意味も含まれているようだ。

Andrea: Tell your friend those whole "Jerry Maguire" thing's not gonna work on me.

1996年の映画"Jerry Maguire(邦題「ザ・エージェント」)において、スポーツエージェントである主人公JerryがDorothyの気を惹こうと、彼女の息子との仲を深める事から始めたのを指している。

第4話

Dean: Liar. 'Cause I was up at three, and you were watchin' the George Foreman infomercial.

George Foremanは、ボクシングの元ヘビー級チャンピオン。Deanが言っているのは、彼が夜中に行っているこの宣伝。

Dean: Man, I look like one of the Blues Brothers. Sam: No, you don't. You look more like a seventh grader at his first dance.

The Blues Brothersは"Saturday Night Live"内で生まれた、その名の通りブルースのバンド。

Sam: Yeah, he told me. It was a poltergeist? Man: Poltergeist? Man, I loved that movie!

Poltergeist(邦題「ポルターガイスト」)は1982年に監督Tobe Hooper、脚本Steven Spielbergで製作されたホラー映画。

Dean: This goes way beyond floatin' over a bed or barfin' pea soup.

1973年の映画"The Exorcist"(邦題「エクソシスト」)より。

Dean: Miss Walker. Hi, this is Dr. James Hetfield from St. Francis Memorial Hospital.

James HetfieldはヘヴィメタルバンドMetallicaのヴォーカル。

Jerry: About sixty miles west of here, near Nazareth. Dean: I'll try to ignore the irony in that.

Nazarethはペンシルヴェニア州の地名だが、Jesus Christが生まれ育った名前でもある。その近くで飛行機が落ちたと言ったので、皮肉だとDeanは思った。

Dean: All right, this is gonna sound nuts, but we just don't have time for the whole "The truth is out there" speech right now.

"The truth is out there"はドラマ"The X-Files"(邦題「Xファイル」)のオープニングの最後に出てくるフレーズである。"Trust No One"なども使用された。

Sam: Or, remember Flight 401?

401便は、1972年にフロリダ州のThe Evergladesに墜落した401便のこと。イースタン航空401便墜落事故として、wikipediaに掲載されている。
